Hey, welcome to another episode of the podcast. I want to make sure at the front end of this that you are registered for the Room to Breathe series which is a private podcast. It is specifically designed to move you from if you’re feeling a bit squeezed, if you’re feeling a little bit stretched, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, over it, any of those things, this is going to provide you with really simple ideas for just creating a little bit of room to breathe that’s kind of like a really super warm hug.
They’re about, well, they’re between sort of seven and 13 minutes long, and they roll out over five days, and I know that what I will be sharing on those audios is going to help you if you’re not kind of feeling as groovy as you know you can feel at this point of 2022. So, go ahead and get registered. You can press pause on this if you need to so you don’t forget and make sure that you are registered, and it sort of feeds in a little bit to what I want to talk about today. You know, I’ve had to get honest with myself about certain areas of my life where I’m kind of flailing a bit, or where I’ve felt a little bit like I’m not moving in the direction that I want to move in, and I learned very, very early on when I started blogging and then selling my very first e-course, Small Steps to Whole Foods, that one of the best investments that I could make in my business was to invest in myself and invest in coaching, mentorship, support.
It has always given me so much more than the initial investment, and I do it in quite a few different areas of my life, but that sort of started to fall off a little bit. During the COVID years when we couldn’t kind of get together, I sort of… I’ve been a part of mastermind groups for years and years, and the value that I thought those groups had, well, most certainly did, was that I could travel, I could leave home and go and mix with people and share ideas and all of that sort of stuff. I missed that so much, and so I sort of pulled away from being in those structured groups which also meant I pulled away from a mentor or coach. Looking around, to be quite honest with you, there’s actually a lot of smoke and mirrors going around in the world of online business mentorship, and so, I just, I haven’t really found what works.
Lucky for me, I have some amazing friends and colleagues who I’ve known throughout the years and have managed to get extraordinary support. We create experiences, peer-based experiences amongst ourselves. But to be honest, I kind of are really feeling the pull to get involved again with some sort of a coach. I mean, we do it, don’t we? We hire a personal trainer when we sort of feel like, “Ah, I need that accountability. I need someone who’s further down the track than me. I need to just have my attention focused where I want it to be focused.” Sometimes it’s really hard to do that on our own. There’s so much, there’s so many competing demands in our lives, and it can be hard to keep ourselves focused. It can also be hard to move through something on our own. I mean, I see my psychologist as a mentor, someone who I can just be like, “Blah, blah, blah,” and he’ll give me a bit of a reflection that I can then take and go, “Oh yeah, I hadn’t seen it that way before.”
We have them in all sorts of areas of our lives, or do you, I wonder. I wonder if you’re trying to go it alone all the time, and I know for me, when I do that, I just, I can get myself quite stuck. That’s because I am interested in moving through things. I don’t want to stay the same. When things are feeling off, I have to allow myself to feel that, just pay attention to it, give it the space it needs, seek out the lessons once I’ve kind of felt all the feels, and then I’m looking to move through it instead of marinating and ruminating in things for too long. I definitely have felt that happening for me a little bit this year, and that’s cool until it’s kind of not cool, and then you want to change things up.
So, I’ve really struggled over the years with the term coach. I really have because I sort of feel more like we’re all friends, but I also do know that there’s things that I have learned over the years, either from the mentors that I invested in and I guess through my own life experience and going through some hard things which we all do that. I know that there’s things that I’ve shared that my interest and knowledge of behaviour change and our brains and all that sort of thing can culminate to be pretty helpful for people who are looking to move themselves through something, and that’s why I created Room to Breathe which is the free audio series, and I really hope, I really encourage you to participate in that. It’s going to be a brilliant experience, even if you’re not feeling particularly squeezed, but you want more room for yourself, you want to just focus a little bit of attention back on yourself. It’s going to be so great for that.
It’s okay to also get to a point where you know you can’t actually move yourself through something on your own. You need a little bit of external support. I mean, the top athletes in the world have coaches. The people at the top of their game have coaches and support people, and if I can be that for you over five days, I would love that. I’m actually going to be announcing something really exciting that I’ve been creating in the background at the tail end of that experience, and I can’t wait to share more with you about that. But for today, I just want to remind you it’s okay if you can’t move through it on your own anymore. Let me be your lead. Let me be your coach if we want to use that word.
