The everyday demands on most women far exceed our capacity. It’s a fact. Society is rigged against women feeling rested - it’s not your fault you’re so damn exhausted. 

In fact, in my Survey on Women conducted in October 2022, only 1.8% of the 1430 women surveyed felt fully rested. Which means 98.2% of women are some form of tired. Maybe just ‘end of the week tired’ or maybe part of the majority of surveyed women who haven’t felt full of energy for AT LEAST 6 months. 

You are not alone if your overwhelm is caused by feeling tired. But it’s not going to fix itself unless you make rest a priority. Until you make downtime a ‘productive’ thing to do. Until you realise you are not a machine and resting is not meant to induce guilt, it’s a NORMAL and VITAL part of life.

When we're TIRED, we:

  • Are snappy at everyone around us and unable to manage our reactions which often causes feelings of guilt.
  • Drag ourselves around in a haze, just waiting for bedtime (which we often postpone once it’s time because #onemoreepisode)
  • Can feel unmotivated, uninspired to make healthy choices, despairing and angry. Tiredness is a form of stress on our body and it’s not a fun place to be.

10 simple steps to overcome TIREDNESS:


Take three things off your to-do list this week. Just remove them.


Acknowledge your stage of life might make it hard to sleep well, so try and incorporate restful moments into your day. For example: take three big relaxing deep breaths before you jump out of the car. Or sit down and eat all your meals instead of rushing around and eating on the fly.


Moving might be the last thing you want to do when you’re already exhausted, but we know it helps. You don’t need to go on a 10k run or suffer through a 45-minute CrossFit session if that's not your jam - take a brisk walk around the block, or maybe a boogie to your favourite song if you need a little extra boost of energy.


Go and speak to a trusted health professional and do some testing if your fatigue is chronic and not improving - prioritise this!


Look for where you can create a boundary around constantly giving to others and instead use that time to rest.


Does your room feel relaxing and sleep-inducing? How can you make it feel like a haven?


Seriously - stop scrolling on your phone in bed! Set an alarm at least an hour before bed to remind you to switch off.


Have a magnesium salt bath - it’s sooooo good for relaxing! Add some lavender oil and enrich the experience.


Can you experiment with going to bed at the same time every night? There’s a lot of evidence pointing towards this as an effective strategy to improve sleep (though obviously not possible for everyone).


Get outside into natural light as early as possible after waking. That sunshine or wind on your face feels invigorating and the science says your eyes being in natural light soon after waking has a ridiculous amount of benefits - try it!
