In 2017 (OMG that’s eight years ago!) I created a program called Small Steps Back to You.

It was born in the thick of raising little kids, a husband struggling with his mental health and addiction, and me trying to figure out who I was after becoming a mum. Life was chaotic.

Out of that chaos, I created eight simple exercises that helped women (and me) get perspective, reconnect to themselves, and figure out what they wanted. They were practical, reflective, and packed a punch.

To this day I have women telling me that those exercises in Back to You changed something for them. It gave them permission to pause and check in. To clear space for themselves. To stop running on autopilot and get into the driver's seat.

Now, in 2025, life looks different for all of us.

Our kids are older - tweens, teens, or beyond. We’ve found ourselves in completely new seasons of parenting, navigating unfamiliar territory. New joys, new challenges.

Many of us are facing relationship changes, career changes, physical changes. Some of us are dealing with aging parents. Some of us have discovered neurodivergence in ourselves or our kids. Some have hit the craziness of peri/menopause. And all of it adds up to one very big question.

Which inevitably leads to - what do I want and how can I have that when I feel squeezed from all directions?

Here’s what I’ve personally found… tools that were helpful a decade ago don’t necessarily meet me where I’m at today. 

But it’s not as though I haven’t tried! 

Most of us have done significant work on ourselves. We’ve read the books, listened to the podcasts, filled the journals. And yet, this stage of life has its own set of challenges that no amount of positive thinking can magically dissolve.

  • A drop in oestrogen causes real and genuine chaos in our bodies and brains.
  • Changes to relationship and family structure rock our foundations and that takes time to adjust to.
  • Grief (of all kinds) needs to be felt, not fixed. We can’t make it happen faster than it’s meant to.
  • Teenagers will stretch us in ways we never saw coming.
  • And sometimes, we look around the life we are living and think - how the heck did I end up here!? 

And when the heck is meant to get easier?!

But the cool thing about arriving in mid-life is, there’s also something deeply grounding about this stage. 

We know more now. 

We’ve been through enough to see that it’s not all love and light - and that’s actually a good thing. There’s wisdom here. There’s compassion. There’s a quiet strength that only comes from having lived a bit.

It’s just that… amongst the relentlessness of this stage of life it’s hard to find a moment to stop and reflect and see ourselves for who we are TODAY.

It’s time we did that, don’t you think?
